THE HOLIDAY CASE: RIMOWA REIMAGINES A JOYFUL ARCHIVE PIECE
This playful reinterpretation of our archive hand cases is inspired by the longings of travel.
In 1988, RIMOWA launched a case which was then known as ‘der Reisekoffer für junge Leute’ – or, ‘the suitcase for young people’. Replete with bright, vivid colours – a bold first for the Maison at that time, reflecting the creative explosion of the late ‘80s – they make up some of the most iconic images from our archival catalogues. While marketed as ‘easy, light and casual’, the cases spoke to an emotion that runs deeper: the familiar longing for a holiday.

Decades later, travel continues to make us dream. A new limited edition collection reflects the retro aesthetic of the piece which inspired it – celebrating the daring design ethos of that moment, while reaffirming RIMOWA’s legacy of blending functional innovation with creative expression. Featuring contrasting white accents for a striking, vintage look, the Holiday Case is available in bright primary colours - Blue, Yellow and Red - that embody that joy of the journey. The original imagery of the archival catalogue depicted dreams of destinations far away, drenched in sunshine, cocktails, turquoise waters and golden sands – with the promise that the RIMOWA case would take you there. This proved rich inspiration for a new creative concept in the 21st century, which sees hopeful travellers gaze at travel advertisements mounted in street windows with the Holiday Case in hand.
